New Paid Parking Areas in Sharjah
Sharjah Government introduced new paid parking areas in Al Mamzar Corniche and Al Khan recently. Paid parking will be active in these areas with effect from 14th February 2022. The conversion of free parking to paid parking is to avoid misuse of the parking areas by some drivers. Moreover, these areas will be paid parking on all days including public holidays and weekend holidays. The public parking fee in Sharjah is AED 2 for One hour, AED 5 for Two hours, and AED 8 for Three hours. Drivers can find a blue board on the parking sign poles indicating that it is a 24 x 7 paid parking area.
There will be about 1100 parking lots in these areas that require fees to park your car. The move will help visitors and guests find free parking lots at all times. The Al Mamzar area is one of the most sought-after tourist places in the Sharjah Emirate. The parking fee can be paid by SMS, Sharjah Digital App, and subscribing seasonal parking passes.
Total Parking Spaces in Sharjah
As per Sharjah Municipality records at the end of 2021, the total number of parking spaces in the Sharjah emirate is 53185. This includes the ‘blue-board’ areas where a 24×7 parking fee is applicable. More parking lots are under construction to cater to residents and visitors as they increase due to urban development.
Free Weekend Parking in Sharjah in 2022
Free weekend parking in Sharjah in the year 2022 is only on Fridays. At the beginning of the year 2022, Sharjah had introduced a new weekend holidays structure. The emirate is having three-day weekends, turning total working days in a week into 4 days. But this has affected the parking system minimally. The free parking remains only on Friday. The blue signboard areas are still a paid parking area on all days including Fridays.
Free Parking Time in Sharjah
The Free parking time in Sharjah is 10 pm to 8 am during weekdays and a full day of Friday is free at Sharjah parking slots. Also, public holidays are having a free parking facility at public parking slots. If there is a blue board on poles indicating paid parking areas, those areas are not free during these timings. It is paid parking area all day without any holiday consideration.
Paid Parking Timing and Tariff in Sharjah
The paid parking timing in Sharjah is 8:00 am to 10 pm on weekdays. Blue board zones have full-time parking fees without any holidays such as weekends and public holidays.
Parking charges at public parking are:
For 1 Hour = AED 2
For 2 Hours = AED 5
And, For 3 Hours = AED 8
If Paying through SMS, AED 0.38 will be charged as Service Charges along with the above parking fees.
What is Blue Board Parking Areas in Sharjah
Blue Board Parking areas are those that require a parking fee at all times irrespective of any kind of holiday and free time. Nearly 6000 paid parking slots are converted into Blue Board Parking Areas in Sharjah. The actual number of such parking slots is 5857.
It is easy to find these parking areas. There will be a royal blue-colored rectangular board with white writing under the ‘P’ sign boards on each parking information pole. There is no change in parking fees or no extra amount to pay as well. Only normal parking charges are applicable in these areas as well.
These boards are installed in commercial areas where the number of visitors is high, especially official timings. The new system became helpful for people who visit commercial places for a few minutes and leave. Earlier for a minimal time-consuming visit also was improbable in these areas as all the parking slots were occupied by residents and free parking seekers.
SMS Parking Payment System in Sharjah
Parking fees can be paid by the SMS Parking Payment System in Sharjah. This is by sending an SMS to a special number through all the telecom service providers. The number for sending SMS is 5566. There is a service charge of 38 fils along with per SMS sent.
For SMS parking, no pre-registration of the vehicle or owner is required. It is very simple. Follow the following steps:
- Select recipient number 5566
- Type 3 letter source code, then space (Source code is the alphabets on number plate that shows which emirate the vehicle is registered. That is for Sharjah, it is : SHJ, Dubai: DXB, Abu Dhabi: AUH, Ras Al Khaimah: RAK, Ajman: AJM, Fujairah: FUJ, Umm Al Quwain: UAQ
- Type duration of parking in just digits (that is for two hours type 2)
The Format for a Dubai car with number 1234 for 2 hours of parking will look like this: DXB 1234 2
For the above message and parking together, AED 5.38 will be charged by the telecom operator.
When received by the system, the driver will get a confirmation on the same mobile phone confirming the parking fee payment for 2 hours.
There is a reminder facility in this parking system. Before 10 minutes of parking time expiry, the driver will get another SMS alerting the parking fee expiry time in 10 minutes. We can renew the parking by simply typing ‘Y’ and replying to the same reply message.

Annual Parking Subscription Fees in Sharjah
Persons and companies can get an Annual parking subscription in Sharjah by paying a fee in lumpsum. The periods for such long-term parking subscriptions are in the form of 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months basis.

Sharjah Airport Arrival Parking Charges
Sharjah International Airport has Arrival Parking, Departure Parking, and Long-Term parking slots that can be used by paying charges very near to the airport. Both Arrival and Departure parking slots are conveniently located to each facility. Long-term parking is just 2 – 3 minutes walking distance away. So there is not much difference in long-term and short-term facilities as normally seen in other international airports.
The parking charges are in slabs up to 4 hours of stay. After that, every hour is charged at AED 11 per hour up to 24 hours. The tariff is as below:

The Parking is controlled by a parking card that is delivered at each entry point. Loss of the card will attract a fine of AED 200/- as a replacement cost. While exiting, the lost card charges and parking will be collected by the staff.
New Paid Parking Areas in Sharjah
The parking charges can be paid in a payment booth located at multiple points in the parking area. The parking card will be read by the machine and the automated system will tell the fees after calculating the time parked in the slot. There are multiple payment options to pay the parking fee. Cash, Cards, and NFC-enabled machines are there.
Once the parking fee is paid at the machine, the driver will get 10 minutes to exit the premises. Failing which, additional parking charges need to be paid.
Long Term Parking at Sharjah Airport
The long-term parking at Sharjah Airport is also as good as arrival and departure parking slots in terms of distance. It is hardly 3 minutes walking distance away from the airport. Choosing this parking is advisable for those who are expecting a longer waiting period. The long-term parking tariff is as below:
